Software Engineer, Full Stack (Data & Video Analysis)
SpaceX
About the role
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
SOFTWARE ENGINEER, FULL STACK (DATA & VIDEO ANALYSIS)
The Vehicle Analysis Tooling team builds the applications that production, test, and flight depend on. You will own the full path: platforms that ingest and process high-volume engineering data, such as telemetry, sensor data, or video; the tools and interfaces engineers use to review that analysis and act on it; and the infrastructure those applications run on. These systems rarely sit in one specialty. Depth in data, video, or applied models is enough to start. Learning the rest quickly enough to ship it is part of the job.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, build, and maintain full-stack applications and platforms used across production, test, and flight, including data processing that turns telemetry, sensor data, or video into analysis engineers can use.
Work directly with vehicle, propulsion, test, manufacturing, and inspection engineers on their most important analysis problems.
Build the internal tools and web interfaces engineers use to query, visualize, and act on engineering data and on the results of automated analysis.
Profile and improve performance where engineers feel it: data processing, database queries, and interactive views of large telemetry or video.
Integrate statistical models, computer vision, or large language models into review workflows for anomaly detection and inspection.
Move prototypes into production with automated tests, CI/CD, and a repeatable release process.
Manage the infrastructure our applications run on, including deployments, monitoring, operations, and capacity planning.
Operate the applications in production: respond to failures, restore service, and carry the fix into the software and into how the system is run.
Move across processing, interfaces, models, and operations, and learn unfamiliar parts quickly enough to ship.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or another scientific discipline, or 2+ years of professional software experience in lieu of a degree.
1+ years of full-stack development experience.
1+ years of experience writing Python for data processing, services, or user-facing application code.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience with video platforms and their infrastructure, including ingest, storage, transcoding, playback, and review of high-volume engineering video.
Strong familiarity with large language model tools and capabilities, including how they work and where they can be used, or experience applying them to computer vision problems.
Experience with computer vision libraries (OpenCV, Ultralytics), machine learning frameworks (PyTorch, scikit-learn), or serving models for inference, including live inference.
Experience with the Python data stack (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy) and with relational databases such as PostgreSQL.
Experience with time-series or other signal data, including cleaning, transforming, and analyzing it.
Experience profiling and optimizing data-heavy software, such as query latency, memory use, throughput, or interactive rendering of large datasets.
Experience with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, HPC systems, a web application framework, or CI/CD.
Experience running production services, including deployment, monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
Experience with a second language used for services or applications, such as Go, Rust, or C#.
Experience shipping internal tools that engineers rely on in their work.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Level 1: $125,000.00 - $160,000.00
Level 2: $145,000.00 - $195,000.00
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You will also receive access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and various other discounts and perks. You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year. Employees accrue paid sick leave pursuant to Company policy which satisfies or exceeds the accrual, carryover, and use requirements of the law.
ITAR REQUIREMENTS:
To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. About SpaceX
SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches the world’s most advanced rockets and spacecraft. The company was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk to revolutionize space transportation, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary. SpaceX has gained worldwide attention for a series of historic milestones. It is the only private company ever to return a spacecraft from low-Earth orbit, which it first accomplished in December 2010. The company made history again in May 2012 when its Dragon spacecraft attached to the International Space Station, exchanged cargo payloads, and returned safely to Earth — a technically challenging feat previously accomplished only by governments. Since then Dragon has delivered cargo to and from the space station multiple times, providing regular cargo resupply missions for NASA. For more information, visit www.spacex.com.
