For our client, we are seeking a Lead Flight Controls & Software Engineer - Special Programs to join the team of a leader in the Aerospace & Defense space.
This role will lead flight controls development for prototype aerospace vehicles, with a strong emphasis on rapid prototyping, embedded software, and technical feasibility assessment. The engineer will own the flight controls and software discipline within a small, empowered special programs team, partnering closely with program leads and broader engineering functions. Success in this position will require both hands-on technical depth and the ability to communicate analysis, documentation, and recommendations clearly in review settings.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $138,200 – $190,100 annually
Responsibilities
Lead flight control law design and analysis for prototype vehicles
Develop embedded flight control and autopilot software from architecture to implementation
Support rapid prototyping efforts, including concept modeling and simulation
Own the flight control and software discipline within special programs
Conduct technical feasibility assessments of new opportunities
Serve as a cross-functional technical contributor across special programs
Collaborate with program leads and broader engineering teams
Produce technical documentation and analysis packages
Represent special programs work in internal and external reviews
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Controls, Electrical, or Computer Engineering; advanced degree a plus
Experience in flight control law development, flight dynamics, or stability and control analysis for aerospace platforms
Experience developing embedded flight control or autopilot software
Familiarity with control design, simulation, and embedded software development tools
Experience with the full development lifecycle in fast-paced environments
Ability to evaluate technical feasibility of early-stage concepts
Strong aptitude for working independently with significant technical ownership
8-12 years of relevant engineering experience or equivalent
