Staff Software Engineer, Defensive Agent

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Defensive Agent to join the team of a leader in the Telecommunications & Hardware space.
This role will shape the technical direction of a highly specialized software team working at the intersection of defensive systems, AI, and platform engineering. You will own end-to-end development from early concept through production, helping turn ambiguous goals into clear technical roadmaps and scalable delivery plans. The position also calls for strong cross-functional partnership with AI research and platform engineering to align innovation with real-world system constraints and production readiness.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $229,000 – $270,000 annually
Responsibilities
Own the technical vision and guide the team through all phases of development, from ideation to production
Contribute production-level code regularly in a modern backend language within a service-oriented infrastructure
Elevate the quality of technical outputs through leading by example during design reviews and code quality checks
Mentor engineers and develop frameworks for high-quality work
Ensure accountability by focusing on outcomes and proactively identifying risks and tradeoffs
Act as a liaison between AI research and platform engineering to align research direction with platform constraints
Translate ambiguous product goals into actionable technical roadmaps
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
7+ years of professional software engineering experience in modern languages such as Python, Go, Scala, C++, or TypeScript
Proficient in building applications on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and using container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Deep experience with production-level agentic or LLM-backed systems, along with an awareness of their limitations
Expert proficiency in SQL and designing distributed systems in production
