Artificial Intelligence Engineer
About the role
About the Opportunity:
We are currently partnered with a leading private equity firm looking to bring on an AI Engineer to join their investment team. You will sit at the center of one of the most active AI transformation efforts in private equity today, working directly with deal teams across sourcing, diligence, and portfolio analytics. This is a high-impact, build-focused role. You will bridge senior investors and the firm's broader AI and data science group, owning projects end to end- from a loose idea through to a tool the team actually relies on.
What You'll Do:
Build and ship AI tools across the investment process - sourcing, market mapping, diligence support, portfolio analytics
Try out new AI capabilities (LLMs, agents, automation, data enrichment) and be honest about what's actually useful versus what just sounds good in a demo
Work directly with investors to turn a rough idea into something they'll actually use day to day
Share what you learn with AI engineers working on other parts of the business, and help build tools that don't have to be reinvented each time
Run pilots with outside AI vendors, figure out if they're worth it, and lead the rollout if so
Own the data pipelines and integrations that keep everything running
Help the broader team get comfortable with new tools - training, troubleshooting, nudging adoption where it's slow
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in CS, data science, engineering, or something similarly quantitative (advanced degree helpful, not required)
Experience working with serious analytical or technical work; consulting background (MBB or similar) is a plus
Comfortable writing Python and working with APIs- this is a hands-on building role, not a strategy role
Curious by nature, and quick to figure out what's real versus hype in the AI space
Can take a vague ask and turn it into something concrete without needing a lot of direction
Communicates well with non-technical stakeholders - you'll be in the room with investors, not just engineers
Gets things done without overengineering it
Nice to have:
Some exposure to LLMs, prompt engineering, vector databases, or agentic workflows
Experience with tools like Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini CLI
Comfortable in AI-native IDEs like Cursor or Windsurf
Background in finance or investing, though this isn't a dealbreaker if the technical fit is strong
Why This Role:
You'd be joining right as this AI program is taking shape at a top-tier PE firm- early enough to actually influence how it's built
Direct access to senior investors from the start, with real support to experiment and try things that might not work
A genuinely steep learning curve, with exposure to problems and technology most engineers don't get near
Mentorship from experienced investors and AI practitioners
Competitive base salary plus discretionary bonus, and a strong benefits package
