Technical Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain advanced analytics and entity resolution pipelines using Python and SQL
Clean, transform, and manage large-scale, complex datasets from diverse sources
Optimize complex SQL queries and database operations for efficiency and scalability
Actively participate in code reviews, enforce version control, and uphold best practices for code quality and data privacy
Support end-to-end delivery including data validation, testing, deployment, and post-implementation monitoring
Key Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP), Text Processing, and Information Extraction, including Named Entity Recognition, Blocking/Indexing, String Distance Metrics, TF-IDF/Cosine Similarity, Phonetic Encoding, and Address Standardization
Advanced Python development skills for analytics and data manipulation
Strong SQL skills for complex querying and database management
Practical experience with Regex for text processing and data cleansing
Experience with libraries/frameworks such as spaCy, Scikit-Learn, Splink, FastLink, Dedupe, or recordlinkage
Professional Skills
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
Strong problem-solving abilities
Ability to operate independently, take ownership of data pipelines, and drive projects from discovery to implementation
Experience with code review, version control, and reproducibility standards
Preferred/Desired Skills
Experience in federal, state, or local government IT/data initiatives
Experience with legacy and distributed systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, Hadoop)
Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins) and pipeline automation for data cleansing jobs
Ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor s in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Information Science (with 12+ years of experience)
Master s degree with 10+ years of experience, or 18+ years of experience in lieu of a degree
10+ years experience in IT industry with relevant technical expertise
Additional Requirements
Must not have been previously submitted to or interviewed with Leidos/SSA in the past year
Strong track record of maintaining data integrity, reliability, and security
Summary
The Senior Data Scientist will be responsible for developing and optimizing advanced data analytics and entity resolution pipelines, with a strong focus on NLP and text processing. The role requires deep technical expertise in Python, SQL, and data science libraries, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently onsite at Woodlawn, MD. Public Trust clearance and prior US work/living experience required.
