## About the Role

John Deere is seeking a **Part-Time Student Software Engineer** to join the **Smart Connected Factory** team in Waterloo, Iowa. This year-round student position offers hands-on experience as a full-stack developer within an Agile development team, supporting backend and frontend development for digital manufacturing solutions.

You will contribute to writing, testing, documenting, and delivering functionality for manufacturing applications while gaining practical experience with modern software engineering technologies and AI-assisted development.

## Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute as a full-stack developer within an Agile software development team.
  • Support backend and frontend development for digital manufacturing applications.
  • Write, test, and deliver software functionality for manufacturing solutions.
  • Use AI coding agents as a thought partner to explore design alternatives, test assumptions, accelerate implementation, and critically review work.
  • Practice spec-driven development by translating product requirements into written specifications and implementation plans.
  • Contribute to engineering documentation, processes, and development best practices.
  • Participate in architectural and technical design discussions.
  • Support the development and deployment of new software solutions.
  • Work with technologies including **Python, TypeScript, React, SQL, Databricks, GitHub, Docker/Kubernetes, and Redis**.

## Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in **Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field**.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for **web development**.
  • Foundational coding knowledge and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to resolve conflicts and adapt to changing environments.
  • Must be registered as a **full-time student at a local accredited university**.
  • Expected graduation date of **Spring 2027 or later**.
  • Minimum cumulative **GPA of 2.8**.
  • Ability to work **30–40 hours per week during the summer semester**.
  • Ability to work **16–20 hours per week during the academic year**.
  • Must be able to commute to **Waterloo, IA daily year-round**.
  • Must be **18 years of age or older**.
  • This position is **not available to students on immigration visas**.
