Senior AI Engineer
About the role
Referment is working with a global investment and technology firm to find a senior engineer who will lead practical AI initiatives within its people function. You will work across human capital, product management and software engineering to turn talent-related business needs into useful, governed AI solutions.
The remit combines hands-on prototyping with technical direction. You will build in Python, guide integration into production products, evaluate outcomes and help colleagues make informed choices as models and tooling evolve.
The Role
Identify high-value AI use cases with internal stakeholders and translate them into well-scoped technical solutions.
Design and deliver Python prototypes, then partner with product and engineering teams to integrate successful features.
Evaluate AI tools through user feedback and outcome monitoring, recommending improvements.
Set technical direction across models, tooling, prompt design, retrieval and agentic approaches.
Mentor junior colleagues and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
What We're Looking For
A bachelor's degree and at least six years' experience across human capital, data science or technology development, including exposure to AI.
Strong Python and data skills, with practical familiarity with LLMs, RAG, agentic architectures and modern AI development tools.
Knowledge of statistical methods; social-science research experience is useful.
Evidence of delivering across ambiguous, cross-functional workstreams and influencing stakeholders.
Management experience is preferred rather than essential.
This could suit an applied AI or data-science leader who enjoys building prototypes while shaping how a people-focused product portfolio adopts AI responsibly.

About Referment
Great people know great people. Referment is a recruitment company built around a simple idea: the best insight into someone's ability often comes from people who have actually worked with them. Since 2016, we've built relationships across some of the world's leading funds, financial services businesses and fast-growing companies. Every search adds to that intelligence. Conversations become relationships. Relationships create referrals. Referrals introduce us to more great people. And our technology helps us retain what we learn, nurture those relationships and recognise when the right person and the right opportunity come together. We combine three things: • Relationships and referrals built over a decade • Experienced recruitment judgement and focused market research • Technology that makes our accumulated knowledge and network scalable People create the intelligence. Technology makes it scalable. The result is recruitment that doesn't start from zero every time a vacancy appears. If you're hiring and want to know who is worth speaking to, talk to Referment.
