About The Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Java Full Stack Engineer to join our dynamic Investment Experience Technology team at USAA. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a startup-minded environment dedicated to developing cutting-edge investment solutions. As part of our team, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing high-impact software solutions that enhance our digital investment platform.

The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, high-quality applications using a modern tech stack, including Go, Java, APIs, OpenShift, and other USAA technologies. This position provides a chance to work on innovative projects that deliver digital-first experiences, empowering members and financial advisors with seamless, intelligent, and scalable tools. The role requires a proactive individual who thrives in an agile, fast-paced environment that values innovation and bold thinking.

This position is based in one of our key locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, or Charlotte, NC, with a requirement to work in-office four days per week. Please note that relocation assistance is not available for this role.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience (minimum 4 years of software development experience).

Additional experience beyond the minimum requirement can be substituted with approved certifications from recognized programs such as CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT, or eFIT.

At least 4 years of demonstrated technical expertise in software development, including full lifecycle project delivery, code reviews, and design assessments.

Proficiency in one or more of the following technologies: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL, Go, Python.

Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools, with experience supporting production issues through troubleshooting.

Strong business acumen in operational processes, risk management, and industry trends to inform technical solutions.

Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical challenges and solutions effectively.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, code, and test complex technical solutions aligned with business requirements and technical standards.

Investigate and resolve complex application and system issues in production environments using troubleshooting techniques.

Conduct detailed systems analysis to recommend improvements in operations, policies, and procedures.

Prepare and install comprehensive solutions by defining system specifications, standards, and programming requirements.

Adhere to the software development lifecycle, ensuring quality and compliance at each stage.

Participate in design reviews and learn key system design principles to enhance technical expertise.

Mentor junior engineers and review peer code to maintain high standards of quality and knowledge sharing.

Ensure all business activities comply with risk management and regulatory policies by effectively identifying, measuring, monitoring, and controlling associated risks.
