- About the Opportunity:
The Medical Data Scientist Intern role offers a hands-on internship to apply data science techniques to oncology-related healthcare data. This position supports the organization's mission by analyzing real-world patient data to inform understanding of standard care, patient journeys, and profiles. The role contributes to improving patient outcomes by providing actionable insights that guide medical affairs decisions.
- Responsibilities:
Review oncology literature and relevant resources to build domain expertise
Learn and apply methods for analyzing real-world healthcare data such as claims and electronic health records
Prepare and process data sets for analysis
Utilize analytic tools including Python, R, SAS, and SQL to perform statistical and machine learning analyses
Communicate findings to team members and stakeholders across Medical Affairs
- Requirements:
Enrollment in an undergraduate program with at least two years completed
Foundational understanding of statistics and data analysis
Proficiency in one or more programming languages for analytics (Python, R, or SAS)
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint
Clear communication skills for presenting findings
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications:
Academic focus in technical fields (e.g., computational biology, engineering, computer science) or quantitative humanities/social sciences (e.g., psychology, neuroscience, public health)
Some graduate-level coursework completed
Advanced proficiency in R or Python
Experience with machine learning techniques
Competency in SQL
Familiarity with web application frameworks such as Shiny, Streamlit, or Dash
Prior experience in healthcare or life sciences research
- Pay Range and Compensation Package:
The salary range for this role is $39,908 - $111,111 USD.
