Applied AI Engineer

Referment is working with a global investment and technology firm to hire an applied AI engineer for greenfield systems used across the organisation. You will work directly with internal teams and end users to turn nuanced operating needs into production AI agents, developer tools and user-facing applications.
The role spans rapid experimentation and durable engineering. You will own projects from concept through deployment while also building shared frameworks, retrieval systems and reusable components that allow other teams to adopt AI safely and effectively.
The Role
Design and build bespoke AI agents and applications for real business workflows.
Take greenfield projects from discovery and prototyping through coding, evaluation and production deployment.
Build coding agents and developer tooling that improve software development workflows.
Evaluate emerging model capabilities and integrate useful advances into production systems.
Create reusable agent frameworks, skills, retrieval systems and shared AI infrastructure.
Develop practical standards and components that support wider adoption.
What We're Looking For
A bachelor's degree and an extensive software engineering background.
Hands-on experience building and scaling AI products, systems or company-level platforms.
Deep practical knowledge of production agentic systems, including orchestration, tool use, memory and multi-step reasoning.
Comfort with rapid prototyping, iterative evaluation and ownership from inception to deployment.
Strong analytical depth, creativity and a record of achievement in technical or entrepreneurial settings.
This could suit a senior applied AI engineer, founding engineer or AI platform engineer who can move fluently between product discovery, hands-on coding and shared infrastructure.
