About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead AI Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and deploying cutting-edge AI systems that drive impactful change across our banking operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers to deliver AI-powered products that revolutionize how our associates work and how our customers interact with Capital One. Your expertise will be crucial in building scalable, responsible, and high-performance AI solutions, including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, and governance frameworks. You will also contribute to shaping the technical vision and long-term roadmap of our foundational AI systems, ensuring that Capital One remains a leader in responsible AI deployment.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 4 years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies

Master's degree in the same fields plus at least 2 years of relevant experience

Minimum of 4 years of programming experience with Python, Go, Scala, or Java

Experience deploying scalable AI solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure

Proficiency in developing AI/ML algorithms, including LLM inference, similarity search, and vector databases

Strong understanding of hardware/software optimization techniques for training and inference

Knowledge of AI governance, experimentation, and observability practices

Responsibilities

Partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative AI-powered products that enhance customer experience and operational efficiency

Design, develop, and support AI software components, including foundation model training, large language model inference, and similarity search

Leverage open-source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch

Invent and implement state-of-the-art optimization techniques to improve the performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of large-scale AI systems

Contribute to the technical vision and strategic roadmap for foundational AI infrastructure at Capital One

Ensure AI solutions adhere to governance, ethical standards, and compliance requirements

Conduct rigorous testing, experimentation, and evaluation to refine AI models and systems

Support deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of AI solutions in production environments
