About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to join our Data Product Platform team. In this critical role, you will provide technical leadership and contribute significantly to the development and enhancement of our data ecosystem. Your primary focus will be on designing and implementing scalable, reliable, and efficient data warehouse architectures that support Pinterest’s data-driven decision-making processes. You will lead complex, cross-functional initiatives that address increasing data volumes and business complexity, while also accelerating analytical velocity through innovative tools and platforms. Collaborating with stakeholders across Product, Data Science, and Engineering teams, you will help shape the future of Pinterest’s data infrastructure. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the technical direction of our data platforms and build the foundation for next-generation analytics products, empowering teams to leverage massive data assets effectively and efficiently.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years of industry experience working with large-scale data warehouses, data tools, and platforms.
5+ years of experience building data warehouses and tools within data ecosystems using technologies such as Spark, Trino, Flink, Airflow, Querybook, Superset, DataHub, etc.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams across multiple organizations.
Hands-on experience developing data pipelines and tools leveraging AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar platforms.
Experience in building AI-powered tools and platforms to enhance data pipeline authoring, analytics, and engineering productivity.
Strong technical leadership skills with the ability to mentor and elevate engineering teams.
Responsibilities
Define and architect Pinterest’s data warehouse infrastructure, including storage solutions and data access patterns.
Lead ambiguous and highly challenging initiatives across data warehouse and analytics domains, ensuring successful delivery and alignment with business goals.
Mentor engineering teams, raising the technical bar through guidance on complex design decisions and strategic execution approaches.
Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineering teams to gather requirements, drive consensus, and ensure timely progress.
Develop scalable data pipelines and tools that incorporate AI capabilities to optimize data processing and analytics workflows.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies and incorporate innovative solutions to enhance Pinterest’s data ecosystem.
Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and documentation to promote best practices and maintain high-quality standards.
