Software Engineer

Referment is working with a software business serving professional-services firms. This role sits within the team behind a cloud-based legal practice-management product and focuses on modernising an established application while continuing to deliver useful features for law-firm customers.
You will work across backend services and browser-based interfaces, with particular relevance for engineers who know PHP and want to move a product towards modern serverless backend technologies and React components.
The Role
Build product features and enhancements using maintainable code and SOLID design principles.
Collaborate with Product Management and Customer Success to understand needs and shape effective solutions.
Troubleshoot issues, balancing immediate fixes with durable improvements.
Increase unit-test coverage, automate manual work and contribute to code review and documentation.
Lead technical projects and coach other software engineers.
What We're Looking For
At least three years developing SaaS or e-commerce web applications.
Strong experience in a modern backend language; PHP is preferred, with Ruby, Java or Python also relevant.
ES6 and TypeScript experience plus React or Angular knowledge.
Cloud-platform experience, relational databases and data modelling.
Understanding of full-cycle engineering practices including testing, source control, build and operations.
This could suit a product-minded engineer who enjoys modernisation work and mentoring without stepping away from hands-on delivery.
