About the role

W2 only, no C2C, must be authorized to work in the US (both now and in the future).

Software Engineer - NYC (Direct Hire) - in New York City, New York. Apply now for this opportunity at Carex!

Carex is partnering with a healthtech partner to hire Software Engineers for a fast-growing Series A startup building an AI-native operating system. This role offers significant ownership across the product, translate complex needs into intuitive software, and rapidly ship solutions that improve clinical and operational workflows.

The ideal candidate is a senior, product-minded engineer who thrives in a fast-moving startup environment and is comfortable owning problems from discovery through delivery. This role is primarily based in New York City with a strong preference for candidates who can work onsite five days per week, with some practical flexibility. Remote candidates may be considered for exceptional senior-level profiles with 8+ years of experience.

What You'll Do

Own meaningful areas of the product end to end, from understanding user problems through design, implementation, and iteration.

Talk directly with behavioral health providers and translate their needs into high-quality software.

Make thoughtful product and technical decisions rather than simply executing against predefined tickets.

Build AI-powered capabilities throughout the product using LLMs, agents, automation, and other emerging technologies.

Develop solutions across clinical workflows, intake, billing, documentation, ambient documentation, rules engines, data models, permissions, and related product areas.

Work across both greenfield initiatives and an existing product, moving fluidly between frontend, backend, infrastructure, and AI-enabled functionality as needed.

Ship quickly, get solutions in front of users, gather feedback, and iterate in days rather than quarters.

Help shape engineering practices, hiring decisions, product direction, and how the team builds as the company scales.

Take ownership of ambiguous, high-impact problems and drive them through completion with a high degree of autonomy.

What You'll Bring

Strong software engineering experience, with senior-level candidates strongly preferred.

Excellent product instincts and the ability to make sound product decisions without depending on dedicated product management or design resources.

Experience building across a product rather than remaining narrowly scoped to a single technical area.

A demonstrated ability to learn new domains quickly and develop the expertise needed to solve complex customer problems.

A strong bias toward action, rapid iteration, and getting working software in front of users.

High levels of ownership, autonomy, resilience, and comfort operating in an intense, rapidly changing startup environment.

A track record of meaningful impact and increasing responsibility. Sustained tenure and multiple promotions within an organization are particularly valued.

Experience succeeding in highly demanding technical environments.

Python, TypeScript, and React experience is helpful, although experience with a specific technology stack is not required.

Interest in applying AI technologies, including LLMs and agents, to complex real-world workflows.

Comfort working in a high-intensity, fast-paced environment.

New York City candidates are strongly preferred. Exceptional remote candidates with 8+ years of experience may also be considered.
