About the role

We are a B2B software company building an AI-first platform for a regulated financial-services vertical. The founder wrote most of the codebase, ships daily, and sells the product personally. You would be the second engineer, and the first hired specifically to take the engineering off the founder's plate.

What You'll Do:

Own Customer Data Migrations: Take a customer's data in from their previous system, imports, mappings, edge cases, the records that need a human decision, and make each migration faster than the last.

Take Over a Real Codebase: Typescript, Node Services, React front-ends, PostgreSQL, Infrastructure-as-code on a major cloud provider. Some of it is excellent. Some of it was written at 2 AM to close a deal. You will learn which is which and leave it better.

Meet Customer Demands: A feature a prospect asks for on Wednesday should be in production the following week. You will use LLM tooling heavily; the founder does, and the bar output is set accordingly.

Own Usage Metering & Billing Correctness: Usage-based billing across several channels. There are known gaps. Fixing them is revenue.

Carry the Technical Side of SOC 2 & PCI: Not as a compliance person but as an engineer who knows where the data lives.

Support Founder: When he's in a customer meeting, you're the technical lead. Customers will email you. Answer them.

What We're Looking For:

Work at Founder's Pace: Strong TypeScript/Node, React, PostgreSQL. Comfortable with cloud infrastructure defined in code. You have run production systems and been paged for them.

AI Tooling: It's a force multiplier for you, not a crutch. You can direct a model to write code, review what it produces, and know when it's wrong.

Debug from Evidence: You review logs, reproduce problems, and confirm the fix with the reporter.

You're Proactive: You would rather ship a prototype and be told it's wrong than wait for a specification.

Customer Engagement: You're not afraid of customers. You can talk with them calmly, on the phone, about why their import failed.

Preferred Experience: real-time voice and messaging-provider integration experience, prior work with a fintech or regulated-industry, strong understanding of compliance frameworks.

Hours:

The founder's build time is in the evenings, roughly 6 PM to 10:30 PM Eastern. That is when pairing, reviews, and the hard problems happen. You will keep customers covered during the day and learn the system alongside the founder at night. If that rhythm doesn't fit your life, this wouldn't be a good fit for you.

What This Isn't:

Not a large team

No defined roadmap

Not a place for narrow specialist

Not a 9-to-5

Not a job where someone else handles the customer

How We Hire:

If selected, a 30-minute meeting will be scheduled with the founder.

Should there be interest in moving forward, we will offer you a paid two-week work sample trial on a real, scoped item from the backlog. You're paid for the two weeks whether or not we proceed.

Based on what shipped, an offer for continuous employment.

Compensation:

This is a salaried position with a starting wage of $95,000 annually. Employer-paid benefits. Equity discussion after the trial converts. Remote anywhere in the United States, occasional travel will be required.
