About the role

Role: Information Technology – Software Engineer – Expert

Location: Boston / Quincy / Burlington, MA

Work Arrangement: Onsite – 4 days per week

Duration: Contract

Key Responsibilities

Analyze, design, develop, test, debug, and implement software enhancements and solutions within Charles River's business and technical domains.

Work independently with minimal supervision on small-to-medium software development projects.

Collaborate closely with Business Analysts, Product Managers, and other engineering teams to translate business requirements into scalable and sustainable software solutions.

Participate in application and product architecture discussions within the team's area of responsibility.

Develop and maintain applications using Java, C#, SQL, JavaScript, and other relevant programming technologies.

Troubleshoot software issues and provide engineering support to customer support and other development teams.

Participate in peer code reviews and provide recommendations for improving code quality, performance, and maintainability.

Develop and maintain unit tests and automated tests to ensure application quality and reliability.

Perform manual testing and debugging as required.

Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, API documentation, and customer-facing documentation.

Actively participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement/grooming, and retrospectives.

Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-team groups to successfully deliver software assignments and product enhancements.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.

7+ years of professional software engineering experience.

Strong experience with object-oriented programming and software development principles.

Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:

Java

C#

SQL

JavaScript

Relational databases / RDBMS

Experience developing, testing, debugging, and implementing enterprise software applications.

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.

At least 3 years of experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.

Financial Services Experience

Strongly preferred experience in one or more of the following areas:

Portfolio Management

Trading

Compliance

Post-Trade

IBOR (Investment Book of Record)

Wealth Management

Investment Management / Asset Management

Experience developing software solutions within a financial services product delivery environment is highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with Charles River IMS (CRIMS).

Previous experience with State Street or Charles River Development.

Experience working with investment-management platforms or financial technology products.

Experience with API development and technical documentation.

Experience with automated testing frameworks and software quality practices.

Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field.
