About The Role

The Senior AI Engineer role at Capital One offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of AI and machine learning innovation within the banking sector. As part of the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and deploying advanced AI solutions that directly influence how the bank operates and interacts with its customers. Your work will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams including engineers, research scientists, product managers, and technical program managers to create responsible, scalable AI-powered products. You will be instrumental in shaping the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems, ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance, security, and ethical considerations.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in engineering, mathematics, and AI, with demonstrated experience in deploying scalable AI solutions. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, along with at least three years of experience developing AI and ML algorithms, is required. Alternatively, a master's degree with at least one year of relevant experience will also be considered. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Go, Scala, or Java is essential. Preferred qualifications include four or more years of experience deploying AI solutions on cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure, along with hands-on experience in developing AI services, optimizing large-scale training and inference software, and applying state-of-the-art techniques for model performance and cost efficiency.

Responsibilities

Partner with multidisciplinary teams to deliver AI-powered products that enhance operational efficiency and customer engagement.

Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components including foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability.

Leverage open-source and SaaS AI technologies such as AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch to build robust AI systems.

Invent and implement state-of-the-art Large Language Model (LLM) optimization techniques to improve scalability, latency, throughput, and cost-effectiveness of production AI systems.

Contribute to the technical vision and strategic roadmap of foundational AI systems, ensuring alignment with business goals and responsible AI practices.

Continuously research emerging AI advancements and assess their applicability to enhance existing systems and develop innovative solutions.

Ensure AI systems adhere to ethical standards, governance policies, and regulatory requirements, maintaining transparency and accountability.
