About The Role

As a Senior Data Scientist at Bet365, you will play a pivotal role in accelerating the company's machine learning initiatives, focusing on automating business decisions and enhancing product offerings. You will be responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and monitoring sophisticated machine learning models that directly impact areas such as trading, fraud detection, responsible gaming, and personalization. This role demands a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership skills to guide a team of junior data scientists and engineers, fostering a culture of rapid iteration, continuous learning, and high-quality software engineering practices. Working closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, data engineers, and operations, you will translate complex business needs into scalable data science solutions that deliver measurable value.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background with a Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline. Proven industry experience in a fast-paced, agile environment is essential, along with a demonstrated passion for delivering value through data science initiatives. You should have extensive hands-on experience in building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models in production settings. Proficiency in Python and familiarity with data science libraries such as Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, and XGBoost are required. Strong SQL skills, particularly with Google BigQuery, are necessary. Experience with Google Cloud Platform, especially Vertex AI (including Pipelines, Workbench, and Endpoints), is highly desirable. Knowledge of containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes, along with CI/CD practices, will be advantageous. Familiarity with real-time stream processing technologies such as Kafka is also beneficial. Candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences and build strong cross-functional relationships.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deploy advanced AI, machine learning, and predictive models, ensuring high standards of code quality and technical excellence. This role involves hands-on coding and active participation in the entire model lifecycle.

Lead, mentor, and guide a team of junior data scientists and machine learning engineers, promoting a culture of rapid experimentation, continuous improvement, and disciplined software engineering practices.

Collaborate closely with data and product teams, including Data Team Lead, Data Product Lead, and AgentOps Team Lead, to align data science initiatives with product roadmaps and platform capabilities.

Work with the UK-based Data Science team to share methodologies, standardize practices, and leverage global technical expertise to enhance project outcomes.

Translate complex and ambiguous business questions into clear, actionable data science projects, delivering rapid prototypes and deploying solutions that generate measurable business impact.

Partner with Machine Learning Engineers to implement robust MLOps practices on Google Cloud Platform, automating model deployment, monitoring, and scaling processes.

Establish and document data science workflows, standards, and version-controlled code repositories from scratch in a new regional office, ensuring consistency and best practices across teams.
