About the role
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with software development, or 1 year of experience with
an advanced degree in an industry setting.
- Experience with statistical analysis and analytics frameworks.
- Experience with testing, debugging, and deployment in C++ and Python.
- Experience with distributed systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
- Experience with one or more of the following: analysis, databases,
experimentation, networking, optimization, or storage systems.
- Experience in software development and operating systems.

We are looking for a Software Engineer with a healthy knowledge or interest in
large-scale data infrastructure and a keen curiosity to build expertise in our
architectures to propose novel approaches for solving emerging challenges. You
will pioneer next-generation designs by carrying out workload analysis, building
prototypes, running experiments, and helping innovative ideas reach production
alongside key technical leaders and stakeholders.
Through close collaboration with Research and Data Scientists across the team,
you will expand your capabilities in Analytics, Modeling, and AI to deliver

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build a deep understanding of Google’s Infrastructure Storage System and how
its components perform optimally using defined metrics, insightful
statistics, and explanatory models.
- Characterize inefficient behaviors and irregular anomalies and identify the
causes of such behaviors.
- Propose deployment efficiency improvements to the design architecture, system
monitoring, resource provisioning, and production operations policies.
- Engage in research with leading academic institutions and industrial vendors
and thus provide guidance to storage engineering functions.
