Principal AI Product Engineer

Principal AI Product Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for a Principal AI Product Engineer to be a foundational hire on a new AI Operations team. This is an internal-facing role focused on building the infrastructure, tools, and experiences that enable teams across an organization to work together effectively.
You will understand how data flows through an organization and expose it at the right level for the right audience. You’ll design internal knowledge systems, decision-making surfaces, dashboards, and patterns that enable teams to build and use AI agents effectively.
The ideal candidate combines strong design instincts with the ability to ship production-quality software. You don't just create mockups—you build, iterate, and deliver the actual product.
There is also a strong product component to this role. You'll receive a steady stream of signals and requests from across the organization, determine what has the highest leverage, prioritize effectively, and manage a portfolio of small internal products simultaneously.
What You'll Do
Build internal operating tools: Design and ship internal knowledge systems, decision-making surfaces, dashboards, catalogs, agent-builder interfaces, and other tools used across the organization.
Get the data layer right: Understand how data flows across teams, determine what should be centralized versus decentralized, and design experiences that expose the right information to the right audience.
Design how teams build and ship AI agents: Create the interfaces, workflows, and patterns through which teams can compose, register, discover, and trust the agents they build.
Run a portfolio of internal products: Gather requests from across the organization, prioritize based on impact and leverage, sequence the work, and ship consistently.
Balance centralized vs. decentralized capabilities: Determine which capabilities belong within a shared platform and which should remain owned by individual teams.
Partner with technical infrastructure teams: Work closely with infrastructure and engineering counterparts to build the platform and experience layers together.
Use modern agentic development tools: Leverage tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or emerging equivalents to accelerate development and ship at high velocity.
What We're Looking For
Hybrid design + engineering skills: Strong product and design instincts combined with the ability to write and ship production code. You sketch, code, test, and merge your own work.
Modern frontend expertise: Strong experience with React, Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind, shadcn/ui, or equivalent technologies. Comfortable working across the frontend/backend boundary when necessary.
Experience with agentic coding tools: Comfortable using AI-powered development environments such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar tools as part of your everyday workflow.
Strong product judgment: Able to manage multiple competing requests, prioritize based on leverage and impact, and make thoughtful decisions in ambiguous environments.
Excellent design taste: Strong attention to UI/UX details including information density, spacing, interaction patterns, usability, and overall product quality.
Systems thinking: Understand how data, tools, platforms, and teams interact. Design experiences with the underlying data architecture in mind.
Strong communication skills: Able to present work and explain technical and product decisions effectively to engineers, executives, and other stakeholders.
Cloud experience: Familiarity with AWS or other major cloud platforms is a plus. Experience with AI/ML infrastructure and services is also valuable.
