About the role
Summary
You will serve as a DATA SCIENTIST in the FORCE IMPROVEMENT OFFICE of NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING SYSTEMS COMMAND.
Duties
You will perform work related to the extraction, processing, and transformation of structured and unstructured data into information that enables the organization to make accurate, data-driven decisions through advanced visualization techniquesYou will serve as the technical authority and consultant for the Force Improvement Office (FIO) community on the application of mathematical, statistical, and data science standards to enterprise performance evaluationYou will apply data engineering and big data principles to design automated database queries, extraction routines, and data pipelines from disparate enterprise sources.You will lead complex analytical investigations and exploratory data studies to support strategic decision-making across NAVFAC leadership and customer organizations.You will formulate innovative research designs to resolve ambiguous, ill-defined problems characterized by sparse or non-standard data.You will conduct continuous evaluation of evolving business, functional, and technical requirements across NAVFAC programs.You will assess emerging industry technologies and machine learning capabilities to continually modernize analytical toolsets, enhance predictive precision, and expand analytical capacity across FIO.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Using mathematical and statistical methodologies to develop processes utilized to analyze data; 2) Developing and implementing data driven analytical solutions; and 3) Preparing and presenting data visualizations for metrics and measures. Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess either Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
