About the role
Software Engineer II (AMIR MDMS Support) - Los Angeles, CA (4 days on-site/1 day remote)
This engagement supports the vendor Meter Data Management System (MDMS) within a large-scale Advanced Meter Infrastructure Replacement (AMIR) program. Working under the direction of the MDMS Lead, this role will configure and support the application, troubleshoot software, integration, and data-quality issues, and participate in testing, migration, cutover, stabilization, monitoring, and ongoing AMI operations alongside the technology vendor, system integrator, and internal teams.
What You'll Bring
Experience supporting large populations of connected devices, with knowledge of complex integrations, field deployment, and multi-vendor implementations.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, management information systems, or a related technical discipline.
At least 5 years troubleshooting complex applications, interfaces, data-quality issues, and software performance.
At least 5 years working with cross-functional teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to deliver software changes.
Advanced SQL skills.
Programming skills, ideally with Python and/or Java.
Ability to analyze performance, reliability, and resource-usage issues in system code.
Knowledge of hardware-software interactions, platform constraints, operating systems, runtime environments, or embedded-system architecture.
Skill in designing moderately complex systems software components and estimating development effort and complexity.
Bonus Experience
Experience with SAP, AWS, DevOps, GitHub, REST and SOAP APIs.
Experience with operational dashboards and automation.
Direct experience configuring or supporting a Meter Data Management system in a utility AMI environment.
Experience with Head-End systems, streaming integration, Datadog, or Splunk.
What You'll Do
Execute MDMS requirements, design, configuration, integration, testing, migration, cutover, and stabilization activities.
Configure and support the vendor MDMS application in partnership with the MDMS Lead, technology vendor, system integrator, and internal teams.
Troubleshoot application, interface, data-quality, resource-usage, reliability, and performance issues.
Use advanced SQL to validate data, investigate exceptions, reconcile results, and analyze system performance and operational trends.
Create scripts, alerts, dashboards, and automation that improve system visibility and proactive issue detection.
Define subsystem interfaces, integration approaches, sequence diagrams, state models, and versioning practices.
Review vendor designs, source code, test results, and system data for quality, accuracy, resilience, and compliance with technical requirements.
Support stress, endurance, fault-injection, failure-recovery, and end-to-end integration testing as appropriate.
Track technical risks, recommend mitigations, and lead small feature areas or technical initiatives.
Coordinate closely with Head-End, SAP, integration, cloud, security, platform, and business teams.
