Software Engineer
About the role
Software Engineer
Pay Rate: $50/hour
Experience Level: 3+ years
Location: Remote, US only (Central / Eastern preferred)
Program Overview
The goal of the program is to consolidate REST API, Managed File Transfer (MFT/ETL), and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) integration onto a single validated, AWS-native architecture. Each of the three products runs in its own isolated AWS account. The engagement re-homes and stabilizes the existing MFT platform, builds out an AWS-based EDI processing framework to replace MuleSoft-based EDI processing that cannot keep up with large-document and high-volume transaction types, and advances the API platform from prototype to production readiness. The team also delivers a transaction reporting and operations web application, a SharePoint-based integration intake portal, and the formal system validation documentation required for production release in a regulated healthcare environment.
Tracks and Cross-Functional Staffing
Environment
Stack: Python, AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, Transfer Family, IAM, CloudWatch), AWS CDK, Git-based CI/CD on AWS, qTest, JIRA, SharePoint, Okta. React/TypeScript for the operations web application.
Regulated healthcare environment: work is delivered under formal computer system validation (CSV) practices, with requirements traceability, documented test evidence, and change control.
AI-assisted development tooling is used day to day and expected.
Initial 13-week engagement term with potential for extension into the 2027 migration and managed-services phases.
Role Summary
This is a software engineering role with a primary focus on testing and validation and a secondary focus on feature development. You will build the automated tests, test evidence, and traceability documentation that allow the platform to be released in a regulated environment, and you will pick up development work in your track under the guidance of senior engineers. It suits an engineer who wants to grow into a full development role while becoming the team's expert on how validated software actually gets shipped.
Responsibilities
Author test cases and test plans from requirements, execute them, and capture evidence (including screenshots and logs) in qTest.
Build and maintain automated tests in Python (pytest) for APIs, file-transfer jobs, and EDI document flows; contribute to integration and load-testing harnesses.
Maintain the requirements traceability matrix and keep it current as requirements change.
Develop and support Python services and AWS resources (Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB, S3, IAM) within your assigned track, with senior engineer review.
Support verification and sign-off activities and participate in code reviews.
Contribute to the operations web application and SharePoint intake portal as needed.
Track work in JIRA and collaborate with senior engineers and Solventum stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of professional software engineering or software test engineering experience.
Working proficiency in Python, including writing automated tests with pytest or a comparable framework.
Basic to intermediate experience with AWS, ideally including Lambda, IAM, S3, and DynamoDB.
Comfort reading and writing structured requirements and test documentation; attention to detail.
Exposure to system integration concepts (APIs, file transfer, or EDI).
Familiarity with JIRA; willingness to learn qTest and formal validation practices.
Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a remote team.
Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; located in the US.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a validated or regulated software environment (healthcare, life sciences, financial services).
Exposure to infrastructure as code (AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or Terraform) and Git-based CI/CD.
Exposure to EDI (X12), SFTP/AS2 file transfer, or REST API testing tools.
React and TypeScript experience.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools.
