Software Engineer
About the role
Software Engineer
Pay Rate: $70/hour
Experience Level: 7+ years
Location: Remote, US only (Central / Eastern preferred)
Program Overview
The goal of the program is to consolidate REST API, Managed File Transfer (MFT/ETL), and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) integration onto a single validated, AWS-native architecture. Each of the three products runs in its own isolated AWS account. The engagement re-homes and stabilizes the existing MFT platform, builds out an AWS-based EDI processing framework to replace MuleSoft-based EDI processing that cannot keep up with large-document and high-volume transaction types, and advances the API platform from prototype to production readiness. The team also delivers a transaction reporting and operations web application, a SharePoint-based integration intake portal, and the formal system validation documentation required for production release in a regulated healthcare environment.
Tracks and Cross-Functional Staffing
Environment
Stack: Python, AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, Transfer Family, IAM, CloudWatch), AWS CDK, Git-based CI/CD on AWS, qTest, JIRA, SharePoint, Okta. React/TypeScript for the operations web application.
Regulated healthcare environment: work is delivered under formal computer system validation (CSV) practices, with requirements traceability, documented test evidence, and change control.
AI-assisted development tooling is used day to day and expected.
Initial 13-week engagement term with potential for extension into the 2027 migration and managed-services phases.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and operate Python services on AWS serverless within your assigned track (API, MFT/ETL, or EDI), and contribute across tracks as program needs shift.
Define infrastructure as code with AWS CDK, following shared platform constructs and standards for logging, retries, IAM least privilege, and cost controls.
Own testing for the work you deliver: unit and integration tests in pytest, contract and load/stress testing, and documented test evidence entered into qTest to support validated release.
Author and maintain requirements ("system shall" statements), test plans, and traceability matrix entries for your track alongside the validation-focused engineers.
Lead technical design decisions in your track, with emphasis on isolation, scalability, and resolving large-document and high-volume processing issues.
Contribute to the operations web application (Okta authentication, role-based access, transaction visibility, replay/reprocessing) and the SharePoint intake portal as needed.
Mentor mid-level engineers, review code, and help set engineering and testing standards for the team.
Partner with Solventum platform owners and business stakeholders to turn integration requirements into working, supportable solutions.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong Python backend skills.
Hands-on production experience with AWS serverless: Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, and IAM.
Infrastructure as code experience (AWS CDK strongly preferred; CloudFormation or Terraform acceptable).
Depth in at least one integration domain: REST/API platforms; file transfer and ETL (SFTP, AS2, SMB, PGP); or EDI (X12 document types such as 850/855/845/867, AS2 partner onboarding, ERP/SAP downstream integration).
Demonstrated ownership of testing: automated test suites, integration and load testing, and producing test evidence for formal sign-off.
Experience delivering software under formal validation or highly controlled practices (requirements traceability, documented verification, change control).
Working proficiency with JIRA and a test management tool (qTest or comparable).
Track record of leading technical work and mentoring other engineers.
Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable working directly with stakeholders on requirements and design.
Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship; located in the US.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience migrating workloads off MuleSoft or similar middleware, including ability to read Mule flows and DataWeave.
AWS Transfer Family (AS2/SFTP) configuration and partner onboarding.
Okta or other OIDC/SAML identity integration and role-based access control.
React and TypeScript for internal operations tooling.
SharePoint-based application or workflow development.
Healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated-industry background, including handling of sensitive or protected data.
Experience using AI-assisted development tools in a production engineering workflow.
