About the role

Role Overview

We are hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to join our Professional Services team, embedding directly with Campfire's enterprise and mid-market customers to build, configure, and ship the technical solutions that get them live and successful on our platform. This is a hands-on, customer-facing engineering role — you will spend as much time in a customer's data and systems as you do writing code, translating complex business requirements into working integrations and configurations under real deadlines.

This is not a back-office engineering role. You will be the technical face of Campfire in the room with customer engineering and IT teams, building solutions that hold up in production.

The ideal candidate is comfortable with:

Writing production-quality code directly in customer environments, often under tight timelines

Complex data integrations (ERP, CRM, data warehouses)

Ambiguous, evolving requirements that shift as you learn a customer's environment

Being the technical face of Campfire to customer engineering and IT teams

Balancing hands-on building with clear technical communication to non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities:

Customer Implementation & Integration

Build custom integrations, scripts, and configurations to connect Campfire with customer ERP, CRM, and other systems

Lead technical discovery with customer engineering and IT teams to scope integration requirements

Migrate and validate customer data into Campfire, ensuring accuracy and completeness

Debug and resolve technical issues that arise during implementation, in real time

Solution Design & Delivery

Translate ambiguous or evolving customer requirements into scoped, deliverable technical solutions

Partner with Technical Account Managers and Professional Services leads to define implementation plans and timelines

Build reusable tools, scripts, and accelerators that speed up future implementations

Make pragmatic build-vs-configure tradeoffs to hit customer go-live dates

Technical Customer Engagement

Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers during implementation

Explain technical tradeoffs and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Build trust with customer engineering and IT teams through responsiveness and technical credibility

Represent the customer's technical environment and constraints back to Campfire's Product and Engineering teams

Internal Collaboration & Product Feedback

Act as a bridge between the field and Campfire's core Engineering and Product teams

Surface recurring integration patterns, product gaps, and technical debt to inform the roadmap

Contribute to internal documentation, playbooks, and reusable implementation frameworks

Support Sales and Solution Consulting with technical scoping during the pre-sale process, as needed

What Success Looks Like

Customers go live on time, with integrations that work reliably in production

Customer engineering and IT teams view you as a trusted, credible technical partner

Implementation patterns and tools you build get reused across future customer engagements

Product and Engineering gain clear, actionable feedback from real customer environments

Professional Services engagements are technically sound and set customers up for long-term success

Nice-to-Have / Preferred Experience

Experience in a Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Engineer, or Implementation Engineer role

Experience with ERP or CRM systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Salesforce)

Experience working directly with enterprise customers under live deadlines

Background in manufacturing, automotive, or supply chain software

Comfort working independently, on-site or remote, embedded with customer teams

Technical Skills

Strong proficiency in programming language(s) — e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL

Experience with API-based integrations and data pipelines

Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP)

Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills in unfamiliar codebases and environments

Educational Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience considered
