Infrastructure Software Engineer
About the role
Role Summary
Overland AI is building off-road autonomy, and our software infrastructure is the backbone that enables our teams to move fast, experiment safely, and ship mission-critical systems. As an infrastructure software engineer, you'll design, build, the internal platforms, libraries, and tooling that enable our engineering organization to move faster and operate more reliably.
This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, platform engineering, developer experience, and infrastructure. You will design and develop shared libraries, service frameworks, and internal tooling used across AI, robotics, and backend systems. You will help standardize logging, telemetry, database access, and service deployment while also contributing to CI/CD, DevOps, compliance, and infrastructure initiatives across the organization.
Our team is small and highly technical. We are responsible for everything from physical infrastructure and cloud platforms to DevSecOps, SRE, field deployments, and software engineering. Successful candidates are generalists who enjoy working across traditional role boundaries while developing deep expertise in one or more areas.
What You'll Do
Design and develop shared libraries, SDKs, and frameworks used across engineering teams for logging, telemetry, database access, authentication, and service communication.
Build internal tooling, utilities, and automation that improve developer productivity, software quality, and operational excellence.
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, DevOps tooling, and engineering workflows in partnership with software and infrastructure teams.
Partner with software, infrastructure, and robotics teams to establish common patterns and best practices for building, deploying, and operating services.
Contribute to the design and implementation of cloud-native systems and platform capabilities across AWS, Kubernetes, and on-prem environments.
Mentor engineers and help drive technical direction for shared software platforms, developer tooling, and engineering standards across the organization.
Required Qualifications
6+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Platform Engineering, Backend Engineering, Developer Experience, DevOps, or related disciplines.
Strong proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, C++, or similar programming languages, with experience building production software, reusable libraries, and internal tooling.
Experience designing and maintaining shared libraries, APIs, software frameworks, or developer platforms used by multiple engineering teams.
Strong understanding of backend systems, including databases, distributed systems, observability, and service-oriented architectures.
Experience implementing logging, metrics, and tracing solutions using technologies such as DataDog, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar platforms.
Familiarity with cloud and infrastructure technologies, including AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, and modern DevOps practices.
Experience in compliance programs such as PCI-DSS, ISO27001, or NIST frameworks is highly valued.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to influence engineering practices across multiple teams and comfortably operate as a technical generalist.
Nice to Have
Experience supporting and optimizing CI/CD pipelines and workflows
Experience with Kubernetes or GitOps tools (ArgoCD, Flux, Spinnaker)
Familiarity with ML infrastructure, experiment tracking, or data visualization tools
Experience with hardware integration or embedded system interfaces
Prior experience supporting hybrid or on-prem deployments
Experience migrating a monolith to a microservices-based architecture
Additional Requirements
Ability to travel in-state for testing, events, and onsite support
Ability to travel out-of-state 1–2 weeks per year for demos or field exercises
Ability to work onsite in the Seattle office at least 3 days per week
Ability to participate in 24x7 on-call rotation
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance
Benefits
Competitive salary: $120K – $200K annually
Equity compensation
Best-in-class healthcare, dental, and vision plans
