Senior Software Engineer | Direct Hire | Chicago, IL (Hybrid) | Investment Management

We are partnering with a Chicago-based client seeking a Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about software design, object-oriented architecture, and domain modeling. This role focuses on solving complex business problems, working with sophisticated data models, designing elegant software abstractions, and delivering scalable, intuitive APIs.

Success in this role requires more than technical expertise. The ideal candidate will be intellectually curious, challenge assumptions, and develop a deep understanding of the investment business, data ecosystem, and foundational platforms that support enterprise applications.

Location & Employment Requirements

Hybrid schedule: 3 days per week in the Chicago office

Key Responsibilities

Design and develop foundational services and APIs that provide access to investment, financial, operational, and reference data across the enterprise.

Translate complex business concepts and data relationships into robust domain models, object-oriented designs, and reusable services.

Build scalable, high-performing APIs that simplify access to complex underlying systems and data.

Develop expertise in investments, funds, ownership structures, valuations, cash flows, accounting, and investment performance.

Make architectural decisions involving service design, API contracts, data access, caching, messaging, and distributed systems.

Simplify platform complexity, improve abstractions, and establish reusable engineering patterns.

Contribute to architecture discussions, code reviews, mentoring, and engineering best practices.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and supporting complex production systems.

Strong experience with C#, .NET, and ASP.NET Core.

Deep understanding of object-oriented design, domain-driven thinking, and software architecture.

Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs and service-oriented applications.

Strong SQL and relational database skills, including complex data modeling and query development.

Experience building software that bridges enterprise data platforms and downstream applications.

Ability to partner with business stakeholders and translate ambiguous requirements into well-designed solutions.

Collaborative mindset with strong communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience

Financial services, asset management, investment management, or private markets.

Familiarity with investment data, including funds, portfolios, transactions, valuations, accounting, cash flows, and performance metrics.

Experience building enterprise platforms or shared services used across multiple applications and teams.

Knowledge of enterprise data platforms, data warehousing, messaging/event-driven architectures, CQRS, distributed systems, and performance optimization.
