About the role
Position Summary
The Clearing House (TCH) is seeking a Software Engineer to join our RTP Product Engineering team. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing our critical real-time interbank payment platform, including development of new applications and features while improving the functionality, reliability, and performance of existing applications. The Software Engineer works directly with RTP Product teams and the Director of Product Engineering to ensure quality code deliverables are completed on time and in accordance with TCH Standards. The Software Engineer also works closely with Operations and Technology to define and implement new features and ensure system resiliency.
This is an opportunity to develop advanced software engineering skills while working on complex, high-value systems that form part of the financial services infrastructure. You will work alongside experienced engineers to develop, test, enhance, and support highly reliable applications for the payments industry while using AI-assisted automation and engineering practices within the software development lifecycle.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on software engineer who has a solid foundation in Java development, some exposure to Python, and a strong interest in building industry-critical applications using cloud, container, automation, and distributed-system technologies.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain highly reliable software supporting real-time payment processing
Write clean and maintainable Java code compliant with TCH quality standards and secure coding practices
Develop software components leveraging enterprise Java frameworks such as Spring and Spring Boot
Develop Python scripts and programs as needed for data automation and integration services
Participate in the modernization of existing applications and migration toward cloud-native platforms
Develop and maintain services, APIs, application components, and automated tests
Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, troubleshooting, and engineering design activities
Apply CI/CD practices for automated building, testing, and deployment of high-quality software
Work with containerized applications and Kubernetes-based environments for component-based releases
Build applications on AWS cloud platforms using Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform
Work with messaging and event-driven technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ where appropriate
Assist with monitoring, troubleshooting, defect resolution, and root-cause analysis
Follow established security, software development, testing, documentation, and change management practices
Collaborate with software engineers, architects, product teams, infrastructure teams, and operations
Use approved AI-assisted development tools to support coding, testing, documentation, and continuous quality improvements in accordance with enterprise controls

Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or related fields
Solid understanding of core software engineering concepts including object-oriented and functional programming, data structures, APIs, automated testing, and source code control.
3+ years in Java software development experience including analysis, design, development, documentation, implementation and testing of systems
Experience developing Python scripts and programs for data management and analysis
Exposure to working in AWS or another major public cloud provider and familiar with cloud-native application architectures, microservices, containers, and distributed systems
Solid understanding of CI/CD and automated software build/deployment processes
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to apply to software design, testing, and troubleshooting
Strong interest in designing and building highly available and highly reliable systems
Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and work collaboratively within an engineering team.
Ability to communicate clearly with technical teams and non-technical partners
