Title: Principal Embedded Software Engineer
Location: On site in Newark, DE or Marlborough, MA
Duration: 6-12+ months with extension
Job Description:
We are looking for a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to lead a team of engineers building embedded software for breast and skeletal health medical devices. This is a technical leadership role responsible for architecture, mentoring, and driving process improvement across the team, not solely hands on coding.
Scope of work (high level)
Lead the design, development, and documentation of embedded software components and systems for new products
· Own architecture level decisions and requirement definitions in partnership with Architects and Product Management
· Guide testing strategy in collaboration with Test Engineering
· Mentor junior and senior engineers, promoting learning and knowledge transfer
· Drive continuous improvement across architecture, scalability, and performance
Required experience (must have)
· 12+ years in embedded systems development (or 10+ with a Master's, 8+ with a PhD)
· Extensive RTOS based design experience (FreeRTOS, QNX, Zephyr)
· Expert level C/C++ and Assembler programming in an embedded environment
· Strong experience with hardware/software integration and real-time, resource-constrained systems
· Communication protocol experience (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN)
Preferred
· Experience in safety critical, regulated device manufacturing (FDA, FAA, etc.)
· Medical device experience and familiarity with IEC 62304
· Understanding of medical imaging or DICOM/HL7 is a plus
