Sr. Java Software Engineer
Summary
Our client is seeking a senior Java software Engineer to join a team performing software development assignments. The current focus is completing annual code and metadata maintenance on legacy Java applications that use complex SQL to leverage metadata. This mostly remote role involves attending daily standups, working across a mixed legacy and modern codebase, and collaborating with a small team of engineers.
Responsibilities
Maintain and enhance legacy Java Web applications driven by metadata stored in Oracle tables.
Build and support Spring Boot services with JPA and persistence layers.
Write, analyze, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries against an extensive data model.
Support existing Angular front-end components as needed.
Perform dependency and CVE remediation while working under quality and security gates.
Attend daily standups to report progress, plan the day, and raise impediments.
Requirements
Java experience (8+, ideally 17+) with Spring Boot and JPA.
Strong SQL skills with the ability to write and break down complex queries.
Experience supporting both modern and legacy Java applications.
Working knowledge of Angular and TypeScript.
Effective communication skills with the ability to show initiative and think through problems out loud.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team.
Preferred
Experience maintaining and enhancing legacy Java Web apps (JSP, JSF, PrimeFaces) driven by metadata in Oracle.
Experience with Oracle and Snowflake environments.
Experience with GitLab, IntelliJ, and AI-assisted development tooling.
Test-driven development using JUnit and experience with Maven or Gradle.
Experience with insurance or financial regulatory data.
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Agile or SAFe methodologies.
This is a 12-month Contract opportunity with our Kansas City, MO client.
