HEAL is a pre-seed, design-led digital health startup building an AI-powered voice companion paired with a connected health device. We're focused on helping people stay consistent with their health routines through a more human, conversational experience — built into hardware people actually want in their homes.
About the Role
We're looking for a hybrid Mechanical + AI Engineer to help bring the physical and intelligent sides of our device together. This is a rare, hands-on role for someone who doesn't want to choose between hardware and software — you'll work on the mechanism itself and on how it senses, responds, and connects to our AI systems.
What You'll Do
Design, prototype, and refine the mechanical components of our device (housing, moving parts, dispensing mechanism)
Bridge hardware and software — sensors, firmware, and the on-device logic that connects mechanical function to our AI voice companion
Iterate quickly between physical prototypes and real-world testing as we move from V1 to V2
Collaborate closely with our AI/ML team to make sure hardware constraints and AI capabilities are designed together, not bolted on afterward
Help ensure the device is reliable, safe, and manufacturable as we prepare for scale
What We're Looking For
Strong mechanical engineering background (product design, mechanisms, or medical device experience a plus) with genuine comfort working close to software/AI systems
Experience with embedded systems, sensors, or firmware that talk to higher-level AI/software layers
Prototyping mindset — comfortable moving from CAD to a working physical build and iterating fast
Comfort with early-stage ambiguity and hands-on, cross-disciplinary work
Genuine interest in health tech or human-centered hardware
Nice to Have
Experience with consumer hardware or connected devices
Background in medical device design or regulatory-aware hardware development
