Backend Software Engineer – Document Generation & API Platform

About the Role

We are seeking a Backend Software Engineer to join a team focused on building and enhancing a document-generation platform that transforms structured healthcare and operational data into user-friendly, encounter-style PDF documents. This platform enables users to access critical information in a clear, consumable format while supporting downstream applications and workflows.

The ideal candidate will have strong backend engineering experience, expertise in API development, and a passion for building scalable data-driven solutions. You will work closely with product managers, analysts, and cross-functional engineering teams to develop document-generation services, enhance APIs, and improve the overall user experience.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and enhance backend services and APIs that support document generation and retrieval.

Build scalable solutions that transform structured data into formatted PDF and document outputs.

Develop and optimize data processing pipelines to support document creation workflows.

Collaborate with product, analytics, and engineering teams to define requirements and deliver technical solutions.

Integrate with cloud-based services and data platforms to support high-volume document generation.

Improve application performance, reliability, monitoring, and scalability.

Leverage AI-powered capabilities where appropriate to improve document quality, automation, and user experience.

Participate in code reviews, testing, and technical design discussions.

Required Qualifications

3+ years of professional software engineering experience.

Strong proficiency in Python.

Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.

Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.

Experience building scalable backend systems and microservices.

Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or similar cloud platforms.

Experience working with structured data transformation and processing workflows.

Knowledge of software development best practices, testing, and CI/CD processes.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with document generation, PDF rendering, or reporting platforms.

Experience with AI/ML services, LLM integrations, or intelligent automation solutions.

Familiarity with healthcare data, clinical documentation, EHR/EMR systems, FHIR, or HL7.

Experience with event-driven architectures and distributed systems.

Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
