Staff Software Engineer - DroneDeploy
About the role
DroneDeploy, the robotics and visual intelligence platform for the built world that is used on over 3 million jobsites across more than 180 countries, is now a part of Procore Technologies Inc., the global provider of construction management software. As a leader in reality capture and robotic automation, DroneDeploy delivers the visual intelligence that bridges the built world—from active construction sites to operational assets—and the digital world, providing critical, real-time visibility into daily operations.
Procore Technologies is the leading technology partner for every stage of construction. We empower construction teams to drive efficiency and mitigate risk through actionable AI & data-driven insights. For over 20 years, we have been transforming the industry with purpose-built solutions for construction professionals and we’re looking for talented people to help us build together.
We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead execution on our core photogrammetry pipeline. As the Staff Computer Vision Engineer on our Core CV team, you will work closely with computer vision leadership and cross-functional partners to drive technical direction, establish production standards, and ship scalable 3D reconstruction systems. Your strengths in 3D reconstruction, hands-on production engineering, and technical mentorship will drive your success.
You will report to the Director of Computer Vision and will be based in Bay Area, CA or Austin, TX.
What You’ll Do
Lead the design, evaluation, and deployment of our production photogrammetry pipeline, including feature detection, structure from motion (SfM), multi-view stereo (MVS), and mesh reconstruction.
Drive integration and evaluation of emerging 3D reconstruction approaches, such as Gaussian splatting and foundation 3D models (e.g., MASt3R/VGGT), ensuring high performance at scale.
Optimize 3D systems for speed, accuracy, and robustness across high-volume customer workloads.
Balance classical 3D computer vision and learned approaches to select the most effective solution for each business challenge.
Own critical technical investigations end-to-end, from initial triage through production rollout and ongoing maintenance.
Set the technical bar for photogrammetry through code reviews, architectural guidance, and establishing production observability standards (metrics, logs, dashboards, and alerts).
Mentor engineers on the team and prepare to take on direct management of 1–2 engineers as the sub-team expands.
Embed advanced AI coding workflows (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code) into the development lifecycle, defining reusable skills, prompts, and playbooks to scale team output.
What You Bring
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
7+ years of professional experience building, shipping, and operating 3D Computer Vision or 3D Machine Learning systems in production.
Technical depth across core 3D perception domains (SfM, MVS, SLAM, mesh texturing, depth estimation).
Proven experience with agentic development and modern AI coding tools.
Experience setting technical direction, mentoring engineers, and a strong interest in expanding into people management.
Proficiency in C++ for performance-critical execution, along with fluency in modern ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow) and cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure, Docker, Kubernetes).
Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong-fit Background Might Include
Senior or Lead Computer Vision Engineer (3D Reconstruction / Photogrammetry)
Spatial Computing / AR-VR Infrastructure Engineer
Geospatial Software Engineer / Aerial Imagery Pipeline Developer
Robotics / SLAM Software Engineer
