About the Role
Bitplaza is looking for a Backend Engineer with 2+ years of professional experience to help build and scale the Opportunity Engine — a platform connecting Builders with Organizations through opportunities, applications, profiles, messaging, and intelligent matching.
This is a backend-focused role, but the ideal candidate should be comfortable working across the technology stack used to build the Opportunity Engine and collaborating closely with frontend engineers.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Python and FastAPI.
Build and improve core Opportunity Engine features, business logic, and integrations.
Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases and data models.
Contribute to AI-powered matching, semantic search, and other platform capabilities.
Work with real-time functionality and background processes where required.
Write automated tests and participate in code reviews.
Deploy and maintain services using Docker and AWS.
Troubleshoot production issues and improve performance, security, and reliability.
Collaborate with frontend and product teams to deliver features end-to-end.
Understand and contribute to the broader application stack when required.
Required Qualifications
2+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong backend experience.
Currently pursuing or have completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Strong proficiency in Python and experience with FastAPI or a similar framework.
Experience building REST APIs and working with PostgreSQL.
Experience with SQLAlchemy/SQLModel and database migrations.
Working knowledge of React, JavaScript, and TypeScript.
Experience with Git and Docker.
Familiarity with cloud environments, preferably AWS.
Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, testing, debugging, and API design.
Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Nice to Have
Experience with pgvector, embeddings, semantic search, or AI/ML integrations.
Experience with WebSockets or real-time applications.
Experience with GitHub Actions / CI/CD.
Experience with AWS EC2, RDS, and S3.
Experience working in an early-stage startup or small engineering team.
