This is a hybrid opportunity, requiring 3 days onsite our corporate office in Boston, MA.

Your Mission

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and continuously improving software solutions, while contributing to technical initiatives and ensuring the solutions meet both business and technical requirements.

Your work will enable healthcare institutions in setting up diagnostic workflows that integrate seamlessly with the SOPHiA DDM platform – processing high-volume of medical data and bringing insights for oncologists via a streamlined process.

These components span the complete technology stack of SOPHiA DDM as well as the middleware layer responsible for integration and connectivity between SOPHiA DDM and external hospital systems. Your expertise will ensure these components not only scale effectively but also remain efficient in terms of performance and cost, while being extended with features required for new integrations.

Design, develop, and continuously improve robust services that are scalable and efficient while fitting into overall system architecture

Implement new features and enhancements across SOPHiA DDM core components, public API as well as middleware layer to enable setup of new integrations with external hospital systems of our customers

Support existing live integrations with customers, propose and implement enhancements based on customer feedback and to achieve system robustness goals

Ensure components perform reliably under high workloads, optimize system performance, resource utilization, and task execution times, contribute to improvements in system stability

Optimize deployment workflows, automate pipelines, and enhance infrastructure management for efficient and reliable application deployment

Implement and maintain monitoring systems to track performance and identify bottlenecks, use existing observability tools like Grafana and Loki to provide insights into operational health

Use cutting edge AI tools and software engineering best practices to boost productivity across all workstreams

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years' experience in a comparable role, holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree (or higher)

Solid proficiency in Java for backend services

Solid understanding and extensive working experience with microservices architecture

Solid experience with public APIs including API definition and change management

Proficiency with databases like MySQL, MariaDB, and DuckDB, including design and query optimization

Power user of latest AI tools and agent orchestration in all stages of software life cycle

Knowledge of HL7 and FHIR standards for healthcare data exchange is a strong plus

Familiarity with Linux environments and GitLab for version control and CI/CD pipelines

Experience in optimization of system performance, manage resources effectively, and improve execution time – esp. when dealing with large data volumes

Experience with scalable architecture, particularly in cloud environments and containerized infrastructure

Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Grafana and Loki

React.js experience for front end development is a strong plus

Experience with Micronaut for developing microservices and backend solutions is a strong plus.

Knowledge of Kafka is a plus

Experience in genomics is beneficial
