About the role

Overview

We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to drive the strategy, architecture, and development of a new customer-facing digital platform for a steel products manufacturer. This individual will collaborate with business leaders to define product requirements, lead discovery efforts, design scalable cloud-based solutions, and guide the MVP from concept to launch.

Day to day:

  • Act as the technical owner and strategic advisor for a new customer-facing MVP for a steel products manufacturer.
  • Partner with business leaders and stakeholders to define product goals, requirements, success metrics, and roadmap.
  • Lead discovery sessions to understand user personas, workflows, technical constraints, and MVP priorities.
  • Recommend the technology stack, cloud/infrastructure approach, data architecture, security considerations, and scalability strategy.
  • Design end-to-end solution architecture, system workflows, technical plans, integrations, and API strategies.
  • Guide MVP buildout, establish development standards, validate technical assumptions, and manage scope with stakeholders.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate proof-of-concepts and product delivery.
  • Create digital tools that help architects, engineers, contractors, and procurement teams understand, select, and specify steel products earlier in the construction lifecycle.

Must Haves:

10+ years of software architecture, product development, or technical consulting experience.

Proven experience designing and delivering software products from concept through MVP or production launch.

Strong ability to lead discovery, gather requirements, define user journeys, and translate business needs into technical solutions.

Experience selecting technology stacks, designing cloud-based solutions, and creating scalable architecture.

Understanding of APIs, integrations, data architecture, modern development practices, and AI-assisted development tools.

Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Comfortable coding in Claude or Chat GPT code.

Experience working in Microsoft platforms

Plusses:

  • Experience in commercial construction, manufacturing, engineering, industrial technology, or steel products.
  • Exposure to BIM, CAD, Revit, Revit APIs, or related construction technology platforms.
  • Background in structural engineering, architecture, or construction product enablement.
  • Experience building knowledge-management, self-service, product configuration, or customer-facing digital tools.
  • Experience leveraging tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or other agentic/AI coding platforms.
  • Experience leading MVP development for early-stage products.

Compensation:

$70 - $85/hr

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
