Senior Backend Java Engineer – AWS | IT Software Engineer 4

About the role

We are seeking a strong Senior Backend Java Engineer with extensive experience in Java, AWS, microservices, distributed systems, APIs, and cloud-native applications. The role involves development, architecture, integration, testing, production support, Agile/Scrum, and technical mentoring.

Must Have

8+ years software development experience OR 6+ years with relevant Master's

Strong hands-on Java backend development

Strong Data Structures & Algorithms / coding skills

3+ years AWS development

AWS CloudFormation, ECS, Lambda, Fargate, S3, IAM, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch

Microservices / Event-Driven Architecture

RESTful API development

Experience with databases such as DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, MySQL, Oracle

AWS SQS, SNS, Kinesis

Jenkins / Azure DevOps and CI/CD

TDD / BDD, Selenium / Cucumber

GenAI experience applied to software development

Candidate Requirements

✅ Must currently be local to Peoria, IL or Chicago, IL

✅ Must work 2 days onsite per week

✅ Strong backend Java experience

✅ Strong coding ability

✅ Must be available for a 90-minute technical/coding interview
