For our client, we are seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Backend to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.
This role will focus on building and operating distributed backend systems that support real-time data processing, scalable APIs, and reliable cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with engineering partners to design performant services, strengthen system observability, and improve the stability and efficiency of core platform components. The position calls for strong technical ownership across backend architecture, data workflows, and production operations in a remote-first environment.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $180,000 – $210,000 annually
Responsibilities
Design and operate core distributed microservices using Go and Python
Build real-time data processing pipelines leveraging Kafka
Architect performant API interfaces across REST, GraphQL, and gRPC
Optimize database performance and schema design for Postgres
Provision and manage scalable cloud infrastructure using Terraform and CI/CD pipelines
Monitor backend system reliability and performance using Datadog
Contribute to documentation and code reviews, leading technical domains with minimal supervision
Qualifications
7+ years of experience with backend systems in production
Proficient in Go and Python, with expertise in building concurrent, scalable systems
Strong database knowledge, specifically with Postgres and ORMs, including schema migration and query optimization
Experience with event-driven architectures utilizing Kafka
Expertise in designing APIs with REST, GraphQL, or gRPC protocols
Familiarity with cloud services (GCP and AWS), Infrastructure as Code via Terraform, and CI/CD with GitHub Actions
Operational experience with observability and metrics tools like Datadog
