About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Principal Software Engineer, Tech Lead, Retail to join the team of a leader in the Enterprise Technology space.
This role will drive the technical direction for a retail-focused engineering team, with an emphasis on building resilient, scalable software that supports customer success. The ideal candidate will partner closely with stakeholders to shape long-term architecture, improve engineering productivity, and create practical solutions in an environment that values both innovation and execution. This is a high-impact opportunity for a seasoned technologist who can bring clarity to complexity and help strengthen the team’s technical craft. The role also involves mentoring senior engineers and leveraging modern AI tools to improve development workflows.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $230,000 – $368,000 annually
Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain resilient and scalable systems that support customer success
Define and drive long-term architectural strategies aligned with business goals
Anticipate future needs in solution design while managing technical trade-offs
Effectively communicate technical direction to stakeholders
Mentor and sponsor senior engineering talent to help develop future leaders
Improve engineering productivity and act as a force multiplier for the team
Diagnose and optimize performance bottlenecks
Use AI tools to improve development workflows and foster innovation
Qualifications
9+ years of experience building and deploying production software
Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or similar object-oriented programming languages
Strong communication skills with a focus on empathy and respect
Proven ability to articulate complex project roadmaps
Startup mindset with the ability to create order from ambiguity
Passion for user satisfaction and product utilization
Demonstrated growth-oriented mindset in technical skill development
