Staff Software Engineer, Variant Classification
About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Variant Classification to join the team of a leader in the Healthcare space.
This role will focus on building and scaling software that supports complex interpretation and classification workflows for scientific and clinical data.
The ideal candidate will partner closely with bioinformatics, laboratory, and product stakeholders to improve data translation, evidence handling, and operational efficiency.
This is an opportunity to shape reliable platforms and tools that help drive accurate results across test content and assay development initiatives.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $100,000 – $198,000 annually
Responsibilities
Design and build tools for accurate variant interpretation
Develop and maintain systems for translating bioinformatic data
Scale and optimize storage of sample-level information
Source and maintain annotations necessary for variant interpretation
Automate evidence placement and classification for variants
Support test content and assay development initiatives
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement solutions that meet business and technical needs
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and 10+ years of software development experience
10+ years of experience with Python at an intermediate level or higher
10+ years of experience with relational databases and web development frameworks
10+ years of experience with front-end technologies such as React, Angular, Vue.js, JavaScript, or TypeScript
10+ years of experience with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture
10+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
10+ years of experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
