Principal Software Engineer - Vehicle AI
About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Principal Software Engineer - Vehicle AI to join the team of a leader in the Manufacturing & Automotive space.
This role will shape the architecture and technical direction for an in-vehicle AI assistant experience, with a focus on scalable software, low-latency communication, and seamless edge-to-cloud integration. You will partner closely with engineering teams across the organization to establish standards, remove technical blockers, and drive execution on a complex platform. The position also involves evaluating AI/ML frameworks and helping ensure the system is performant, reliable, and ready for real-world use.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $238,700 – $365,700 annually
Responsibilities
Define end-to-end architecture for the in-vehicle AI assistant platform.
Drive cross-functional technical strategy and collaboration across the organization.
Architect hybrid edge-cloud orchestration to optimize performance and efficiency.
Establish engineering standards for client-server communication protocols.
Evaluate and integrate AI/ML frameworks into the assistant ecosystem.
Unblock architectural dependencies across multiple engineering teams.
Lead platform testing and evaluation pipelines for system health measurement.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
12+ years in software development with a focus on large-scale distributed systems.
Expertise in Android architecture (Kotlin/Java) and cloud integration, including microservices, REST, and gRPC.
Exceptional cross-functional technical leadership experience across engineering teams.
Deep understanding of client-server interactions and low-latency communication protocols.
