Principal Software Engineer
About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.
This role will help shape the technical direction for a sophisticated platform built to support autonomous investigation workflows and data-intensive decision-making. The position will partner closely with ML/AI engineers and Product Management to define scalable architecture, establish clear system boundaries, and deliver reliable infrastructure for complex AI-enabled capabilities.
As a senior technical leader, you will also drive engineering standards, mentor experienced engineers, and help ensure the platform can perform efficiently at scale.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $190,600 – $257,800 annually
Responsibilities
Architect and implement core components for the autonomous investigation platform
Own technical direction for complex, ambiguous problems and establish data contracts and system boundaries
Collaborate with ML/AI engineers to design infrastructure for model training and evaluation
Champion engineering standards, including system design patterns and data modeling conventions
Lead design reviews and mentor senior engineers to elevate technical competencies
Identify and mitigate performance and scalability issues in the investigation pipeline
Work alongside Product Management to shape requirements and propose balanced solutions
Qualifications
10+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on high-scale system design in distributed environments
Expertise in data systems and stream processing, including Kafka and Flink
Strong knowledge of ML/AI system design, including model serving and feature pipelines
Ability to navigate complex technical problems and articulate trade-offs
Experience in cloud-native environments, with AWS preferred, relevant to AI/ML workloads
Strong communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical teams
