Staff Software Engineer - Vehicle AI
About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Vehicle AI to join the team of a leader in the Manufacturing & Automotive space.
This role will shape the architecture and technical direction of an AI assistant application platform for in-vehicle use. You will lead development efforts across edge and cloud components, working closely with AI teams to turn model capabilities into a reliable, responsive software experience. The position also calls for strong collaboration with engineering partners to improve vehicle-integrated features, performance, and lifecycle support.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $189,300 – $290,000 annually
Responsibilities
Lead the design and execution of the AI assistant application platform on AAOS
Drive engineering execution and establish technical roadmaps for the software team
Architect scalable APIs and SDKs for AI integration with vehicle capabilities
Implement a hybrid edge-and-cloud architecture for AI processes
Establish automated testing and CI infrastructure to ensure software reliability
Collaborate with AI teams on model training and platform lifecycle feedback
Optimize system responsiveness, including voice and text response latency
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
8+ years in software development with a focus on Android architecture
Experience as a technical lead driving architecture decisions
Expertise in Kotlin and Java with modern Android frameworks
Hands-on experience designing developer-facing APIs or SDKs
Experience in setting up automated testing strategies and CI pipelines
Knowledge of client-server architectures using gRPC or REST
