About Modendo

Modendo is redefining endoscopic imaging through the development of the thinnest endoscopes ever made, opening access to environments previously out of reach. By combining optics, photonics, and precision engineering, we are creating breakthrough instrumentation for biophotonics and semiconductor inspection.

The Role

You’ll build the commercial software that powers our products. Working across optical, mechanical, and life-science teams, you’ll integrate cameras, lasers, light sources, spatial light modulators, and detectors into cohesive systems, translating experimental requirements into tools people want to use.

This is a hands-on role on a small team, where your code ships directly into the products and lab systems that shape Modendo’s capabilities. Success means writing clean, maintainable Python, designing intuitive Qt interfaces, and moving fast across disciplines.

What You'll Do

● Design, build, and maintain instrument-control and data-acquisition software in Python.

● Develop responsive desktop user interfaces with Qt (PyQt / PySide) for operating hardware and visualizing results.

● Interface software with optical and electronic hardware — cameras, lasers, light sources, detectors, motion stages, and DAQ systems.

● Implement acquisition, processing, and visualization pipelines for image and sensor data.

● Collaborate with cross-functional engineers and scientists to translate requirements into reliable, well-tested tools.

● Use Git for version control, code review, and collaborative development, and help maintain healthy engineering practices.

● Debug, profile, and improve the performance, reliability, and usability of existing software.

● Document code, interfaces, and procedures so the rest of the team can build on your work.

Minimum Qualifications

● Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, physics, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.

● Strong proficiency in Python.

● Experience building desktop GUIs with Qt (PyQt or PySide).

● Proficiency with Git and collaborative version-control workflows.

● Solid software-engineering fundamentals: clean design, testing, and debugging.

● Good written and verbal communication, and the ability to work in a cross-functional team.

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience interfacing software with scientific or industrial hardware (cameras, lasers, detectors, motion control, DAQ).

● Experience with image processing or scientific computing (NumPy, SciPy, OpenCV, or similar).

● Experience with CAD registration – aligning and overlaying imaging data onto CAD or layout data

● Familiarity with instrument-control frameworks, real-time or multithreaded programming, and serial/USB/Ethernet device communication.

● Experience with C/C++ alongside Python.

● Exposure to optics, photonics, bioimaging, or biomedical instrumentation.

● Experience with packaging, CI, and deployment of desktop applications.

What We Offer

● Dynamic and multidisciplinary work environment with top academics and industry experts.

● Rapidly growing company.

● Excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance through a PPO plan; parental leave.

● Equity plan

● 401(k)
