Infrastructure Software Engineer: Application Engineering

Referment is working with a global investment and technology organisation to hire a lead-level Infrastructure Software Engineer for an application engineering team. You’ll build resilient internal platforms and services that improve software delivery and developer effectiveness across a technically demanding organisation.
The role combines hands-on distributed-systems engineering with technical architecture, product thinking and close collaboration. You’ll translate the needs of developers and infrastructure specialists into services that are reliable, usable and able to operate at significant scale.
The Role
Own infrastructure products and services that improve developer productivity.
Lead large technical projects from initial problem definition through design, delivery and operation.
Act as a senior technical architect for the wider application engineering team.
Partner with developers, application engineers and infrastructure specialists to understand user needs.
Shape product direction while making detailed engineering decisions and building production solutions.
What We're Looking For
At least seven years of direct experience designing, building and scaling large distributed systems.
Hands-on experience building within the Kubernetes ecosystem.
A track record of delivering complex developer-facing or user-facing products.
Strong programming across one or more relevant languages such as Python, Go or Rust.
A computer science or related technical degree.
Excellent communication, self-management and stakeholder skills, with a service-oriented approach.
Desirable Experience
Linux and networking fundamentals.
Hands-on work with on-premises infrastructure.
This could suit a senior or staff software engineer, platform engineer or developer-infrastructure specialist who wants architectural responsibility without leaving hands-on delivery.
