About The Role
The Lead Machine Learning Engineer at Capital One will play a pivotal role in advancing the company's capabilities in Generative AI and agentic systems. As part of an agile team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying scalable AI solutions that drive innovation across various business units. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background and extensive experience in machine learning and software engineering. A Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, or a related field is required, along with a minimum of six years of experience in designing and building data-intensive solutions using distributed computing frameworks. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Scala, or Java is essential, with at least four years of hands-on experience. Preferred qualifications include a master's or doctoral degree, experience with GenAI frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex, and a proven track record of deploying AI solutions in regulated environments. Additionally, experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and contributions to industry conferences or open-source projects are highly valued.
Responsibilities
Architect Agentic Platforms: Lead the design and development of core agentic engines and multi-agent workflows, enabling seamless integration of conversational and automation solutions across business functions.
Drive AI Evaluation & Trust: Develop scalable evaluation frameworks and observability pipelines to monitor model performance, ensure predictability, and mitigate risks associated with AI models.
Deliver High-Impact Use Cases: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy AI-driven solutions such as intelligent recommendation engines, conversational assistants, and next-generation consumer AI experiences.
Enforce Enterprise Guardrails: Ensure all AI solutions adhere to strict data privacy standards, regulatory compliance, and frameworks for explainability and auditability.
Translate Practical Research: Stay updated on advancements in LLM optimization, retrieval-augmented generation, and multi-agent design, applying these techniques effectively in production systems.
Technical Leadership & Code Excellence: Provide architectural guidance, oversee code reviews, and foster a culture of engineering excellence within the team.
