About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Kernel/Embedded C Programmer to join our EC2 Nitro Dataplane team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and optimizing high-performance networking software that underpins our virtualized networking platform. Your work will directly impact the processing of millions of packets per second across our global fleet, ensuring low latency, high throughput, and robust security features. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to design, review, and implement innovative solutions that enhance our SDN capabilities, combining the performance of bare-metal networking with the flexibility of the cloud. This is an exceptional opportunity to influence the future of cloud networking technology, working on complex systems that serve both internal and external customers, including AWS Lambda and EC2 users worldwide.
Qualifications
3+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship)
2+ years of experience in system design or architecture, including reliability and scalability considerations
Proficiency in at least one programming language such as C, C++, or Rust
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and system design principles
In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and networking fundamentals
Experience with kernel or embedded systems development, particularly Linux kernel development
Scripting skills in languages such as Python, Ruby, or Rust
Experience managing the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, testing, and deployment
Ability to lead projects from requirements gathering to launch and operational support
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize high-performance networking software for the EC2 Nitro dataplane
Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of best practices and continuous learning
Participate in architecture decisions, design reviews, and code reviews to ensure high quality and maintainability
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, technical designs, and product strategies
Maintain current technical knowledge by staying updated with emerging technologies and industry trends
Implement low-level hardware tuning and optimization to achieve processing of millions of packets per second
Contribute to the development of new features that enhance SDN capabilities and cloud networking performance
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to gather feedback, troubleshoot issues, and improve system reliability
