Overview
As the Senior Software Engineer for Scout Motors’ digital products on the Aftersales team, you will play a key role in the development and enhancement of our AI-powered operational intelligence systems, from concept to deployment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and implement scalable and robust solutions that power intelligent scheduling, diagnostics, and service optimization capabilities across our digital ecosystem. Some of the key products as part of the digital portfolio include intelligent service scheduling, predictive diagnostics, vehicle health monitoring, and AI-driven service recommendations. At the same time, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to be hands-on building key systems that bring machine learning models into production at scale and will be directly responsible for the successful delivery of complex and large-scale technical efforts, as well as acting as a technical mentor and leader for other engineers.
What you’ll do
Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:
Work with engineers & technical leaders across the company to ship interoperable products and systems on strong foundations that manage customer interactions inside and outside of the vehicle
Design and build backend services that integrate ML models into production systems
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications and deliverables
Partner with Product and business stakeholders to productionize models for scheduling optimization, diagnostics, and service recommendations to support real-time and batch AI inference at scale
Ensure observability/monitoring for model performance, data drift, and system reliability in the AI systems
Implement best practices and standards for software development, including code reviews, testing, and documentation
Mentor and coach junior team members, providing guidance and support to help them grow and succeed
Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, continuously learning and experimenting with new tools and techniques to improve our software development process
Be responsible for the services that are owned by your team, ensuring 24/7 on-call coverage
Location & Travel Expectations:
This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Fremont, California.
This role requires 3 days per week in the office, with regular in-person meetings and events.
Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
Travel: Domestic travel required. Valid driver's license required.

Education/Certifications: A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field
Years of Experience required in type of role: 5+ years in software development with the ability to lead multiple projects, focusing on back-end technologies
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, both independently and as part of a team
Experience integrating with or building around ML/AI systems like TensorFlow
Proficiency in Python and Go, with experience in Node.js
Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases like PostgreSQL, Redis, MySQL, and/or MongoDB
Experience with data pipeline/streaming tools
Understanding of operational intelligence use cases (predictive analytics, anomaly detection, optimization algorithms)
Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with a passion for finding elegant solutions to complex challenges
Preferred:
Experience in automotive, manufacturing, or field-service industries specifically around scheduling or diagnostics
Experience with AI/ML-powered decision systems in production environments

Pay Transparency
This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
Initial base salary range = $140,000.00 - $170,000.00
Initial California base salary range= $154,000 - $187,000
