About the role

Forward-Deployed Engineer

About InOrbit

Our platform helps companies orchestrate fleets of autonomous robots and integrate them with the systems and workflows that run their operations. We work at the intersection of robotics, Physical AI, and Agentic AI, helping customers turn complex robotic environments into reliable, scalable operations.

Our customers operate in real-world environments such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, hospitals, and other industrial sites, where software needs to work reliably alongside robots, people, and existing infrastructure.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Forward-Deployed Engineer who is excited about solving complex technical problems directly in customer environments.

This is a highly hands-on software engineering role. You will be expected to write code, build integrations and connectors, deploy software, troubleshoot issues, and work directly with customers to get solutions working in production.

You will work across the full lifecycle of a deployment — from understanding a customer's technical environment and requirements, to building the necessary integrations, deploying the solution, debugging issues, and making sure it works reliably in the field.

What You'll Do

Work directly with customers to understand their technical and operational requirements.

Design and develop software integrations and connectors between InOrbit and customer systems.

Build integrations using APIs, SDKs, middleware, databases, and other software interfaces.

Deploy and implement software in customer and production environments.

Work across cloud and edge environments and troubleshoot issues across the software stack.

Diagnose and resolve complex technical problems involving APIs, networking, infrastructure, software, and connected systems.

Integrate with systems such as WMS, MES, ERP platforms, robot fleet systems, and other customer-specific software.

Collaborate closely with InOrbit's engineering team while taking ownership of technical problems in the field.

Travel to customer sites, including warehouses and industrial facilities, as needed.

Help turn one-off deployment challenges into scalable product capabilities.

What We're Looking For

Strong software engineering and programming experience.

Strong hands-on experience with Python. Experience with C++ is a plus.

Experience building software integrations, APIs, connectors, or middleware.

Experience deploying and implementing software in production or customer environments.

Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills.

Experience working with Linux environments.

Experience with Docker and/or containerized applications.

Experience working with cloud and/or edge environments.

Ability to understand unfamiliar systems quickly and figure out how to make them work together.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with both technical and non-technical customer stakeholders.

Comfortable taking ownership of ambiguous problems and driving them to resolution.

Willingness to travel approximately 30% to customer sites.

Nice to Have

Experience with robotics, autonomous systems, AMRs, or robot fleet management.

Experience in warehouse automation, manufacturing, logistics, or industrial environments.

Experience with ROS/ROS2, robotics APIs, sensors, or IoT systems.

Experience integrating WMS, MES, ERP, or other enterprise systems.

Experience with networking, edge computing, or distributed systems.

Experience working in a startup or fast-moving engineering environment.

Location & Travel

📍 US-based | ~30% travel to customer sites | Must reside within reasonable access to a major airport

⚠️ Important: Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship, now or at any point in the future. InOrbit does not provide employment visa sponsorship for this position
