## About the Role

First Citizens Bank is seeking a Software Engineer I to join its technology team and contribute to the development of scalable software solutions supporting client-facing online banking applications.

In this role, you will work closely with Product Managers, Business Analysts, Testers, and cross-functional teams to design, develop, maintain, and support applications. You will contribute to existing systems as well as new client onboarding solutions while following engineering standards and development best practices.

This is a remote position available only to candidates located in Arizona, North Carolina, Texas, or Virginia.

## Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop technical solutions that meet functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability requirements.
• Contribute to the architecture, design, and development of medium- to large-scale software projects.
• Support and maintain client-facing API banking systems.
• Develop and maintain scalable software platforms.
• Collaborate with product, testing, analysis, and engineering teams to deliver effective solutions.
• Contribute to departmental development standards, guidelines, and best practices.
• Write secure, maintainable, well-documented, and high-quality code.
• Refactor and improve existing applications to enhance performance and maintainability.
• Develop and execute effective testing strategies.
• Participate in architectural and technical design discussions.
• Support ongoing application maintenance and production systems.
• Continuously learn new technologies and contribute to improvements across the engineering team.

## Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with at least 1 year of programming experience, or
• High school diploma/GED with at least 5 years of programming experience.

## Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to understand, evaluate, and influence software architecture and design.
• Experience with microservices architecture, SOA, and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience developing web services using SOAP and REST.
• Experience with CI/CD practices and automated software delivery.
• Hands-on experience with React, Node.js, Java, Spring Boot, and J2EE technologies.
• Knowledge of enterprise technologies including JMS, JDBC, transactions, WS-* technologies, JVM, JNDI, JMX, and JTA.
• Familiarity with messaging systems such as MQ and Kafka.
• Knowledge of software design patterns and J2EE development best practices.
• Experience implementing SSO and security protocols such as SAML 2.0 and OAuth 2.0.
• Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience working within regulated financial services organizations is a plus.
• Familiarity with Test-Driven Development and Agile methodologies.
• Experience collaborating within both distributed and on-site development teams.
